Alabama DeMolay: Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

DeMolay is the world's largest youth fraternity, providing fun and educational activities for young men ages 12-21. DeMolay Chapters are located in Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery, Anniston and Huntsville.

DeMolay develops civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.

State Master Councilor Alex Hood has been a member of DeMolay for three years.

"Being in DeMolay I have learned many skills, public speaking skills, event planning, how to work with people in a business setting and how to motivatee groups.  The best part of being in DeMolay is that it is fun!  We do anything the guys want to do, like white water rafting, paintballing, hanging out playing football, or having a video game lock in.  I believe that the friendships I am making in DeMolay are lifelong friendships and will help me in my future endeavors with whatever I do.  It is a brotherhood that lasts.”

The Alabama DeMolay Association is governed by the state Executive Officer, the adult volunteer leader, Dad Jim McGee.  There are three state officer positions and those young men serve a one year term.  The State Master Councilor is the highest youth leader, followed by the State Senior Councilor and State Junior Councilor.  Local Chapters are lead by their three top officers, the Master Councilor, Senior Councilor and Junior Councilor but there are many other positions where young men can have a role in their chapter.

Brothers,

During this year it is my hope for Alabama DeMolay to raise money for the Scottish Rite Dyslexia program.  This worthy cause helps hundreds of children across the state that need dyslexia testing and dyslexia materials to overcome this reading disability.  The Scottish Rite members work very hard to raise money to provide this free service to Alabama families, and they need our help to continue their work.

I am hoping that each chapter in Alabama will consider a fund raising event aimed to help the dyslexia program.  Please let me know your plans and let’s work until June 30, 2010 to raise the money.  Then, we can all present our money to a Scottish Rite representative at our next Conclave July 8-11.

Fraternally,

Alex Hood
